Where birdies fly…

Congrats to our Golf Maintenance staff! According to the Durango Herald, “the team that keeps the grounds of the 1,000-acre Glacier Club green has scored an environmental hole-in-one.”

This summer, our golf maintenance team has not only maintained The Glacier Club’s pristine grounds, but they have implemented programs focused on preserving the environment.

Some of the programs include:

• Creating a butterfly garden with perennial species: salvia, butterfly bush, cone flower, and blanket flower.

• Installing trout catch and release for kids.

• Creating nesting boxes and bird perches for the surrounding wildlife.

Bird of prey perch on Cliff's course hole #6

• Integrating a pest management program.

• Managing facility water conservation and quality.

In 2010, The Glacier Club received designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program grades golf courses on environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, water conservation and water quality.

We want to thank Mark Hanson, our Director of Golf Maintenance and his hardworking staff for developing and executing the club’s eco programs. You and your staff’s personal and professional dedication to environmental stewardship is greatly appreciated.

Keep up the good work!

We Love Durango!

There are so many things that make Durango, Colorado a unique place.  The mix of rich history, cultural experiences, attractions, natural beauty, community activities, mild climate, location and entertainment are just a few reasons we love living in the southern Rocky Mountains.  And we are not alone!  Recently the Durango Chamber of Commerce created a video contest where entrants had to create home videos of why they love Durango.  Check out the winners by clicking on the link below. (Our favorite is the 3rd place winner!)

Nice and cozy at Glacier Club

The nationwide blizzard and record low temps are sweeping across the nation, but we seemed to have missed the worst of it in Durango, Colorado.  A perfect day to head over to the clubhouse to soak in the hot tub and sit in the sauna to warm up!

It's such a neat experience to walk around the property Glacier Club and see wildlife everyday.  Whether it be a deer crossing the cart path or a fox trotting across the greens...it never gets old.
